There is a book called “The Giving Tree” and I always tear up when I read it with my babies because I identify so strongly with the desire to give my children everything I can. If you aren’t familiar with the story it is about a tree who loves a boy. First, the tree gives her apples to the boy, then leaves, then her branches, and even her trunk until then she finally allows the boy to cut her up until she is only a stump. While this story touches me out of love for my children, I am concerned for how often I look out into the world and see how many people are walking around the world as worn out stumps. They have given and given and given until there is nothing left and they are tired, frustrated, lonely, short tempered, and stuck.
And, I see so many people who feel as if they are happy…but not really. Because you are not made to live as a worn out stump. You are made to be a massive tree with strong roots to ground you in your truth, massive branches to reach out to others, luscious leaves to enhance your beauty, and delicious fruit to nourish the world. I am often asked if self-care and self-reflection is selfish. My reply is “Do you want to give the world a stump or a tree?”
Make 2018 the year you give the world a tree. I am so proud of you for taking the first step and joining me for 31 Days to You. You will get an email each day with a question to reflect on. There are no right or wrong answers. In fact, I won’t even know your answers! This is for YOU. I encourage you to keep a notebook or computer folder so you can reflect on your answers and track your progress. But even if all you do is open the email and think about the question each day you will be well on your way to a better version of you. Happy New Year and I am looking forward to YOU showing up for YOU tomorrow. And if there is anyone else you think could benefit from this journey share this post with them! It is free so there is nothing to lose. The world needs more trees and less stumps!
